When is Father’s Day 2025?

This year, Father's Day is on Sunday 15 June 2025. It's a different date every year because it's always celebrated on the third Sunday of June. So, what will you buy your old man this year? Here are plenty of ideas...

Crafty Father's Day gift ideas you can make yourself:

Get crafting and you can create a really special gift for very little outlay (or even for free).

1. 'Building Memories' jar:

For the father that loves playing with building blocks, you can create a special jar using a few spare blocks that will spark the imagination for fun things to do together. Simply clean and dry an empty jar, and then fill it with blocks that have a word you/your child has written on them, that describe some activities he'd enjoy doing - such as 'cook' or 'game' or 'explore' or 'LEGO'. The idea is that he'd close his eyes and pick a block at random, and then the two of you can follow that idea.

You could use LEGO bricks, of course, but as they're tiny you'll need small handwriting and a fine-nib permanent marker! Going big can make it easier, which is what my daughter did, using a few spare Mega Block pieces (pictured above). If you need to stock up, you could combine the jar with a set of Mega Bloks First Builders Big Building Bag - 60 Pieces (£7.99, was £15.99) from The Entertainer to give to Dad too.

2. Homemade biscuits:

For sweet tooth fathers, you can't go wrong with a plate of sweet treats made by you/your child. I have a fail-safe gingerbread recipe that we use for sugar biscuits too (just leave out the ginger and cinnamon), which is from a Winnie the Pooh cookbook from my childhood. If you'd like to spell out words, like my daughter did (pictured above), you can get a set of Whisk Alphabet Cutters 26 Pieces (£6.99) from Hobbycraft, or a simple Gingerbread Cookie Cutter 9cm (£3) that you could decorate to look like Dad.

Simply melt 85g butter, 85g brown sugar and 3tbsp golden syrup in a pan. Pour into a  bowl of 225g plain flour mixed with 1tsp baking powder, 2tsp ground ginger and 1tsp ground cinnamon. Mix together, roll to the thickness of a pound coin, cut out your shapes, and place on baking parchment on a tray. Bake at 180°C for around 8-12 minutes (until golden brown, but be careful not to overcook - they're much nicer soft).

Leave them to cool, and then decorate with icing sugar mixed with a bit of hot water, and the colours of your choice. You can make your own piping bag by cutting a small hole in the corner of a sandwich bag.

3. Hand-painted pottery:

A piece of pottery decorated by your own/your child's fair hand will be a treasured gift that's also a practical piece Dad can use. You could go to a local pottery painting cafe/studio to make one, like my daughter did for her Daddy's bowl (pictured above), but there is a quicker/cheaper option - a Mug Painting Set (£3) from The Works, which comes with everything you need - the ceramic mug, coloured paints and instructions.

The benefit of buying an at-home kit is that you won't have to factor in the extra time to wait for your creation to dry and then the pottery studio to fire it - which can take a couple of weeks. Going the DIY route at home is also a money-saver, too.

4. Drawing:

Go back to basics with a hand-drawn picture to melt Dad's heart. The time and effort that are involved in a unique drawing are priceless, and it'll be a beautiful piece to look back on over the years, as it really captures a moment in his child's development, both in terms of their skill and their interests - my daughter was perfecting her stick people, and very into wizards and witches when she drew this (pictured above)!

This can be entirely free, using what you have a home i.e. a piece of paper and colouring pens/pencils, but you can also buy an affordable frame to put it in. We've used George at ASDA's range of photo frames and found them to be good quality and great value for money, with prices starting from 98p.

5. Decorated apron:

For the Father who loves cooking, a hand-decorated apron by his child will be a useful and beautiful addition to his kitchen goodies. We've used the Baker Ross Fabric Aprons (£6.34 for a pack of two from Amazon) and a pack of fabric pens to make a colourful apron (pictured above).

Father’s Day gift ideas under £25:

You can gift Dad an awesome present on a budget, as these affordable picks prove.

1. Golf ball ice cubes:

If Dad loves nothing better than a round of golf and a cold drink afterwards, then the Gentlemen's Hardware Golf Ball Ice Mould (£14) from John Lewis is ideal. The silicon ice cube mould cleverly transforms frozen water into the shape of golf balls for fun golf-themed drinks on 'hole 19'.

2. LEGO car:

Does Dad love LEGO and fast cars? Then combine the two with the LEGO McLaren F1® Team MCL38 Race Car (£22.99) from the LEGO Store. With 269 pieces, it's suitable for ages 10+, and comes with a very cool minifigure racer. It's much more affordable than an actual race car, and you get the joy of building together - now that's priceless.

3. Beer and snacks:

When it comes to the perfect night in, some Dads will be all about the food and drink. And if that's the case for your father, then the Serious Pig & BrewDog ‘Little Night In’ Gift Set (£25) could be just the ticket. He'll get a mini version of Big Night In gift hamper for a fun yet sensible evening at home, with salami, pickles and cheese alongside lager, IPA and a glass to enjoy the cold stuff from.
